Snow maps

Snow cover monitoring using satellite data

A part of the SNAPS project is to produce "near real time" snow maps for the target areas. These maps are based on different types of satellite data, and they show the snow cover, the wetness of the surface snow, and water equivalent (in coarse resolution).

The first historical sets of snow maps have now been produced and a video with historical data has been created for target areas in Iceland and Norway based on SAR data with MODIS data in the background. The red spots represent wet snow surface based on SAR information and the white spots are the snow cover in general, based on MODIS data
